The AGM was held at the club on Sunday 5 July 2020 with 14 members in attendance. Reports were received from the President, Treasurer, Auditor and the Bowls Captain. As expected, all reflected the effects of the Covid-19 outbreak. Nevertheless, in layman’s terms, the club is doing OK, albeit that we may face severe financial shortfalls if the Royal Show doesn’t go ahead and Christ Church College don’t return.
One piece of good news was that in their draft budget the Town of Claremont has set aside $75,000 for building improvements to our clubhouse.
Another notable piece of news is that the club has a new greenkeeper. At the end of Mark’s last contract the committee decided to advertise the position for the next year. As a result, three applicants faced the three person selection panel. The successful applicant is Ryan Carey of All Turf Maintenance. Welcome aboard Ryan. Huge thanks to Mark Lindsay for his many years of service as the previous green keeper.
Over to the ‘Election of Office Bearers’
President Ian White thanked the outgoing committee for the previous year.
Ian White would continue as President; Chris Litchfield would continue as Secretary; Betty Waldeck and Trevor Perree re-nominated for the Management Committee.
Vacant positions were Vice President; Treasurer; Bowls Captain; & Management Committee x 2.
At first call – nobody nominated for any of the vacant positions. President, Ian White, nominated for the Treasurer’s position, in addition to his role as President, however he reiterated that he wouldn’t be able to continue as the Bowls Captain. He urged members to ensure the club survived by nominating for the other vacant positions. As a result, Jack Wara nominated for Management Committee and Martin Downey nominated for Bowls Captain. All were endorsed by the membership.
Special Business: Michael Diamond was nominated for Life Membership for his outstanding and longstanding contribution to the club. Michael’s nomination was overwhelmingly endorsed and applauded by the membership. Congratulations Michael. Very much deserved.
