The 2019 – 2020 Bowls WA Pennant Season is about to kick off and the Claremont Bowling Club is ready and excited for the journey. We are pleased that we will have the players to field a ‘3 rink’ side on both Saturday (5th Div) and Thursday (4th Div).
Of course, we would have loved to have taken advantage of our well-deserved pennant win promotion to 4th Division for Saturday, but we simply don’t have the numbers as yet. The main thing is that we live to fight another day and that we enjoy representing our club and each other.
There are a few changes to start the season off, some good and some not so good.
On the bright side we welcome Thera Howat and Phil Leeson to our playing stocks. Phil joining has made it a real family affair joining his parents Dave and Dot. We also welcome back Des Lynch who has been missed on several fronts. Good to have you back big fella.
On the not so bright side, and for various reasons, we kick off the season without popular regulars Mark Lindsay, Peter Hiatt and Jack Wara. Thankfully all three are still members so we may yet see them back on our greens in some capacity during the season. I personally hope so.
We begin the season on ‘A’ Green this year, which is very welcomed. Well-done Mark.
The Saturday season begins this week, 26 October 2019, at Home against Lake Monger. The mid-week season opener follows on Thursday, 31 October 2019, at Home against Mt Lawley.
Please note the important changes to Thursday pennants, especially the earlier start time. It’s now a ‘sets play’ format, there’s an open roll-up from 12.30pm for those who wish to avail, but the formal game must start by 1.15pm at the latest. Please don’t be the one who gets mixed up with the Saturday start time and arrives late.
I’m taking a break from official duties this year but have agreed to manage and update our website from a bowls prospective. I’ll have the teams on the website as early as possible each playing week and it’s also my intention to do a short write-up following each pennant game and club championship event. If you have any stories, news or requests please give me a yell.
Club President, Ian White, will be carrying the bulk of the bowls load this season on top of his presidential duties. His extra duties will include being Chairperson of Greens, Team Selector and Team Manager, so if you can lend a hand at any time please don’t hesitate to let him know. As always, we will be well supported behind the scenes by Club Secretary, Chris Litchfield.
